I just received a call from Mr. Ajasin that the bus company is cancelling the planned bus trip. The governor has ordered mandatory evacuation of Atlantic City.
I've also taken the step of cancelling Sunday morning worship at the church, as it will be at the very height of the storm. With a state of emergency declared, and the public transit system shutting down, I think it prudent to do this. The streets will very likely be flooded, and very high sustained winds (such as we are not at all accustomed to in this area) are forecast.
If the situation changes -- that is, if between now and Sunday the storm turns out to sea and passes us by, I will send out another note -- Con Edison and Verizon permitting. But at this point prudence is the better course.
Please help spread the word by calling members who do not have access to e-mail, and asking them to do the same. I am particularly concerned as well that people be well prepared and have saved some drinking water in pans or bottles. If there is a power failure in the region we might be without power for several days. Please be prudent and spread the word. This is not just a storm but a potential disaster.
